Instument Basic Information

The curettes are held in the modified pengrip (between the thumb, the index finger and the middle finger). Since instruments for scaling and rootplaning are used with a certain amount of pressure a correct grasp, proper point of support and stable but flexible finger rest are very important.

Furcation curettes are specifically designed for the removal of calculus and plaque in the furcation areas. The angle of the shank and the position of the working blade in relation to the shank determine the area where the furcation curette is used.
